Graduate Recipient - Maya Suzuki, Arizona State University
Maya Suzuki is a third-year environmental engineering PhD student at Arizona State University working on cost-effective heavy metal removal and recovery using membrane biofilm reactors.  She has also worked on policy research on the Good Samaritan Remediation of Abandoned Hardrock Mines Act.  She is aiming to commercialize her membrane biofilm reactor technology.

Madeline Roanhorse Memorial Scholarship Recipient (Western 1) - Anahi Guzman, University of Nevada, Reno

Anahi Guzman is a senior at the University of Nevada, Reno majoring in Geology with a minor in Geotechnologies and a certificate in GIS. She is a Public Safety Intern through the Nevada Division of Minerals, working in the Abandoned Mine Lands program to inventory abandoned mines across the state.

Madeline Roanhorse Memorial Scholarship Recipient (Western 2) - Sean Hayden Hart, Colorado School of Mines

Sean Hayden Hart is a senior at Colorado School of Mines majoring in Mining Engineering, with minors in Environmental Engineering and Public Affairs. With his education, Sean intends to work in the reclamation/remediation field to advance the mining industry through respect for the environment and responsible stewardship of our land.

Eastern Recipient - Sarah Nelson, West Virginia University
Sarah Nelson is a senior at West Virginia University majoring in civil engineering with a focus in water resources. Sarah has worked as an undergraduate researcher at the West Virginia Water Research Institute for over 2 years and plans on pursuing a master’s degree in civil engineering.
